| Re: 1st annual NCSUC ride day!!!! LAKE CAMANCHE!!! 8/21-8/23!!! Lastnight while on the phone with Rick (Waterfly550) we came to the conclusion that Lake Camanche would probably be the best lake for us to do the ride. So I'm glad to log on and see more of you agree with that choice. To be honest this choice really was made by process of elimination. LOL.
So if you care, here's how we came up with Lake Camanche:
Lake Sonoma (2nd choice): We do want to go there, but we thought because there is a large concentration of riders in the central valley we felt the turnout would be a lot less that far away. Especially on such short notice.
Camp Far West: I actually initially selected this lake, but then i heard it gets SUPER muddy in August from people who love that lake, but don't love it in August.
Berreyessa: I'd rather not ride in a ghost town. And by all accounts it seems like that lakes better days are behind it. Lots of places/marinas are said to be closed now. I'd rather go there once the economy gets better and it comes back to life
New Hogan: Water levels really low.
New Melones: Not enough shore to camp on.
Salt Springs: DJSA guys ride up there enough for DJSA. Wanted a spot that would be different.
Don Pedro: Little to no shore camping.
Tulloch: We'd rather a bigger lake.
Folsom: Strongly considered, but we thought that lake may be too crowded. This is the one lake in Northern California that reminds me of a Southern California lake because there are so many people in a large area that share the same lake.
Bullards Bar: Elevation too high = poor performance for skis.
Woodward: Them having to drain that lake and clean it out, makes it very unlikely that I'll ever go there. I'll just leave at that.
Nacimiento: Like Sonoma, too far. Especailly for the first event.
The Delta: While I love the Delta, there are too many people that refuse to ride in the Delta (because for some it's like playing on the freeway and the water isn't as clean as they'd like). Plus, the Delta for me (and others) is like Salt Springs for DJSA guys. I want to go somewhere different than the norm. We'll reserve the Delta for having a boat with us for wake jumping.
Shasta: Too damn far!
Pismo: That's a SoCal spot. We definetly want to make trips out there, but not as a NorCal event.
So that leaves Camanche. Which ends up being a great choice for the reasons others have mentioned above. Lots of shore to camp on. Good lake. Full lake. But one of the biggest benefits is that it is close to most of the people in the group which i expect (hope) will result in the largest turn out possible.
I need to get back to work right now. But in a couple of hours I'll post more details on cost and camping.
THANKS everyone for your patience. I should have gotten this out a long time ago, but life has had me SWAMPED. I look forward to riding with all of you.
