Thursday's Ride to, and Dive at the P FAD

On Thursday I rode out to the "P" FAD located about 37 miles south of Oahu on my FXHO. Winds were mostly calm and I was able to comfortably average 25-30 MPH with a low stance on the PWC to minimize bouncing and maximize aerodynamics for gas mileage.

I topped off the tank to the point of it overflowing (unintentional) before putting the cap on and hitting the water.

Got there with just over half of the tank still showing on the meter. Took me about 2 hours.

Dove there, only saw two mahis. After about 45 minutes I finally was able to plug the biggest one and get it on the ski.

Nobody else out there AT ALL. Sunny, good viz, but could not see land or land cloud formations at all. Kinda scary, glad I had my GPS to tell me which way to go to get back to Oahu.

I got back to Hawaii Kai with one big bar of gas showing - about 3-4 gallons left. I took the long way back, diving at several rubbish spots and bird piles.

Good info to know.

Paul,

Do you have any cool pics of the fish? Did you take an extra tank of gas with you?
