Palolo Pool Training

Mon thru Fri (except thurs) 9:30 to 11:30 am, 25 yards

Mon thru Fri (except thurs) 11:30 am -12:30 pm 50 meters

Pool finally reopened today. Got the new hours which sucks...

Mon thru Fri (except thurs) 3-5 PM 25m

Saturdays 2-5 25 yards

That's it.

No more evening 50m training sessions. Was fun while it lasted. Sort of.

I may put together a 2-4 week long workshop with 2 days a week for diving practice in the afternoons starting at about 3 pm if there's enough interest. I have at least one free-diver and most likely two free-divers from another forum commited so far.

I know Jhip and NIZ were interested as well. Does the timing work out for you guys at all?

Will work on 2 things - 1) free-diving techinque/hunting breath holds and 2) breath hold for big-wave wipe-out hold-downs from tow-in surfing.

Let me know.

Re: Palolo Pool Training

Paul,

I can definitely make it for the Saturday 2-5 sessions. That's if you're not diving on that day, lol.

I usually work Monday - Friday, 9 - 5 so the I'm out for the weekdays.

Re: Palolo Pool Training

I don't like the idea of giving up a weekend day as I'd rather be diving, surfing or doing a long triathlon style training session.

Do either of you guys know of a decent pool between Waikiki and Portlock that's well-lit that would work for this on a weekday evening or night?

Have you guys heard about the PFI course for free-divers? It is supposedly a great course and I've trained with some of these guys. I would have signed up myself when I started out, but I couldn't afford the costs for an sign language interpreter. And now at this point, I don't need the course so... This will be a very good option for you guys if we can't make this happen.

They even recently started up a spearfishing version:

However the spearfishing course is in Florida so maybe forget that?

You both qualify for the intermediate free-diving course. Dec 5-8 in Kona.

I have no pool info in the those areas. I could check though.

I know the veteran's pool in Waipio offers evening swims, but that's too far for you to make that commute I'm assuming.

Pat and I already considered the PFD course in December. Guess we'll see...

Re: Palolo Pool Training

Paul,

Have you established a pool training schedule yet?

Pat and I may have to alter our work schedules to fit it in.

Otherwise, we just may have to attend the PFD course in December...

Re: Palolo Pool Training

I was just telling Pat that nothing has been established due to a lack of committed participants (just have 1 so far, and knowing him, he will probably only show up for the first two ro three sessions). What I can do with you guys at the pool pales in comparison with what PFI will teach/do for you. These guys are professionals. They make their living doing this. They have nice graphics, images, power point presentations, timers, equipment, etc I'm just an amateur.

However, if you guys are serious about this and getting a head start on the PFI course, let me know what days work best for you from 3 PM and on. Wednesdays are out for sure. Fridays suck. That leaves Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

We should have at least a day's break between pool sessions, so keep Thursday.

Pick between Monday and Tuesdays. Bear in mind that if you dove or did something tough on Sunday, then a Monday training session might not work out very well. Tuesdays would be a safer bet, but that's up to you. I can go either way.

Re: Palolo Pool Training

Argh. Just re-read my post. No Thursday stuff. I wonder why. I'll try to call them tomorrow and find out why there's nothing on Thursdays. Maybe there is a different schedule and they're not closed.

Re: Palolo Pool Training

Okay, Tuesdays are out for me. I can do Mondays and Thursdays. However, I may be kinda drained on Mondays assuming that we dive on most Sundays...

Re: Palolo Pool Training

Let me find out what's going on with the pool on Thursdays and we'll take it from there.
