New Member / Long Time Rider

Howzit Gang....I know I'm behind the times here but I just got turned onto this site. I am with HFD and responsible for the department skis. I ride the Kawie Ultra LX with the Lifesled attached for my personal ride. I Ride alone mostly and want to start fishing more. Any tips out of the gate for rigging, equipment, etc? I stock the Lifesled Boards too and can get them for much less than the HSA (even though those are good boards., just pricey). Looking to touch base with some guys that drag lures and would like to check out their set ups.
Lots of Aloha,

Re: New Member / Long Time Rider

Welcome to the board!

As far as trolling goes, don't do what I did which was to get a rod holder that held rods straight up. This means my lines are only a foot apart at best which is bad news. Also my rod holders go over the back end lip of the ski which means I can't use a sled when I go trolling. Also means I can't bring my fish bag with me on a sled, or have a good place to put a big fish unless I want to try putting it in the gunnels and holding it in place with a leg.

My set-up:

Needless to say, I rarely fish. Just a bad set-up for me. Also since I'm deaf, I need to put my rods up front so I can watch for a reel spooling instead of constantly cranking my head around to check for a bite. I got a Scotty rod mount and am thinking of mounting it somewhere up front.... Don't know if it will work out well.

Ideal rod set-up, and an ideal fish! Obviously not me - I will ask the guy to join up on this board - maybe he will. He also makes lures... I'd like to find out more about his set-up.

My HSA board is starting to fall apart, so I may be interested in checking out a lifesled board. My biggest gripe with the boards is that they're set up for rescue work/tow-in. I would like to see a model that has more flush attachment points for equipment, etc. I've lost over a thousand dollars worth of gear because the bungee straps will sometimes shift, and more importantly, I suck at tying down my stuff...

Where do you want to fish, and what kind of fish are you looking for?

-Paul

Howzit Mike!!! Yup, it's me...thanks for the shout out. Nice to see a familiar face out there! Hope all is well. I have been coming to Waimea regularly to visit our bar "Pasa's" in the back of the Parker Ranch Shopping Center, same parking as the Kahilu Theatre. Some friends have been taking me diving (I'm bringing a spear next time) and fishing (hiked into Kiholo Bay (at midnight under the moon) and we fished all night. I love my B.I. visits.
Hope to run into you again.
Lots of Aloha,

If you get the stuff and want to bring your ski over... I can help you rig it up. Just let me know.
Aloha,
Jimbo

Thanks Paul for the tips..I've read some of your info and dude.....you got some lungs!
Anyone that can free dive down to those depths is pretty heavy. I'm kinda on the Old Guys Rule club, but also know I need a tank below 25-30 ft. I really appreciate the info and would really like to meet you /ride someday. I would primarily be trolling off the Kailua / Kaneohe are so probably mahi/ono would be my target (never say no to ahi though)! The hand rail wrapping on the HSA sleds are famous for coming off which I hope Mike fixes eventually because he makes good boards...but his and the LifeSleds are the best ones out there in my opinion.
Aloha,
Jim 387-8669

Jim, how much are you're lifesleds going for? My cousin is looking for a sled but doesn't want to pay the rates for the HSA ones.
