July 1st...
Left shortly before 6 AM:
Some small waves out there. I still have no GPS coordinates for the shallow parts of the bank, and found out the hard way that for some reason the "P" FAD was not saved in my GPs (all others are). So I set out blindly.
Followed some birds that led me to some porpoises that were milling around not doing much. Geared up and jumped in to see zero life whatsoever.
I resumed riding and did not see any further activity. Birds flying low back and forth. some boats out there not doing much. I decided to turn around and head back home, but after a mile I decided I wanted to at least get wet and figure out how to best set up my blue-water spearfishing gear. So at a random spot, I dropped in a flasher, geared up and went jumped off.
Looking down, I could've sworn I could make out a bottom. I had no idea if I was even over the banks or not, but apparently I was.
I waited for a while by the flasher for something to swim by, but after a hour, nothing did. I decided to take a closer look at the bottom that I could only barely make out. It turned out to be 147 feet deep which was more than 20 feet deeper than I had ever dove before.
Nothing but little fishes down below, and no quality structure. Just sand and small rubble/rocks. Pretty flat, not worth hunting.
Still, it was a nice morning out there.
I started riding back...
Halfway back, I noticed a few birds actually focusing on some activity taking place so I veered off to check it out. Mahi! I threw my flasher overboard, but they split. I dragged it back up, chased after the school, them threw it overboard again. They showed no interest in the flasher nor did they want to stay in the area so forget about getting the gear out and hoping to shoot one. I did not bring any chum either.
I chased after them again and snapped a photo for proof.
