Cool Heading Out Early - Sun Sept 6 - Hawaii Kai - Spearfishing

I plan to head out early tomorrow morning to spearfish between Diamondhead and Makapuu in case anybody wanted to tag along. Where I go will depend on conditions and my gut feeling. If it's calm enough, I will also venture further out to look for some bird piles and some mahis.

I'll check this forum again a few times this evening, and probably will be launching between 6 - 6:30 AM.

Sup Paul,

Probably won't make it out for tomorrow's session. Please post pics of your catch and dive safe!

Also, keep me posted on when you can organize the pool training at Palolo pool.

Re: Heading Out Early - Sun Sept 6 - Hawaii Kai - Spearfishing

Good one Offroadie.

Shot an even bigger ulua today, but it ripped off after bending my (virgin) shaft and thrashing everything. First ulua I've ever lost I think. It was just a bad situation all around, I should not have taken the shot. Too much current, too rough, too deep, no dive partner, blah, blah. Took me almost 2 hours just to get my gun back.

I also found some another big ulua, two omilus, three papios, all which I didn't shoot because they were either too small or they bused out of there before I could get to them. I also found several Kahalas (amberjacks) at a couple of the spots that practically swam right up to me and tried to impale themselves on my spear tip. I didn't want them though, so I shooed them away. Also saw shibis (young ahi tuna) and a bunch of other decent fish, none which I took a shot at. It was a pretty good day out there considering.

Have spare shaft, crimps, line, but not a spare shooting line bungee. Looks like I'm doing something else tomorrow. The wife's gonna be happy to hear this.
