Re: big waves these week

Looking forward to the pictures - be safe!

I picked up a used HSA rescue sled last weekend.

But I cannot find a tow board at all. The only one I found for sale was a $1,200 weighted carbon fiber board at Surf and Sea in Haleiwa which is nuts. I've been watching craigslist for a few weeks but have had no luck there as well. I also called a bunch of surf shops on this island with no success. Any ideas?

Due to my lack of tow-in experience and the SW winds, I was thinking about launching from Kahana Bay (ENE side of Oahu) where it should be smaller so my partner and I can train in the non-ORMA area north of there. If anybody here wants to join, let me know. It would be tomorrow late afternoon due to work. But first, I gotta find a tow board...

Re: big waves these week

Tomorrow's (Thursday) report for Oahu's North Shore from surfline.com:

Quote:
POOR+
SURF: 20-25 ft. - 4-5 times overhead occasionally 30 ft. and poor+ conditions.

LARGE WNW-NW swell fades, biggest early with bigger waves at select spots; increasing South/SW wind; most locations are washed out
Friday picks up in size again:
Quote:
POOR
SURF: 25-30 ft. - 5-6 times overhead occasionally 35 ft. and poor conditions.

Reinforcing WNW-NW energy builds, biggest late with bigger waves at select spots; strong onshore wind; most locations washed out
Maui will almost certainly be much better.

Re: big waves these week

Hey I live in Hilo and we are looking at a North-West swell at about 20-30'. And yeah you bechta I'll be out. Don't do tow ins just ride big surf!!! And also hang as a safety ski in our area. Hoping the breakwall of Hilo Bay will be pumping in the next few days. If ya wanna see how big the swell is going to get over the next few days this is the link I use

Talking Re: big waves these week

Damn Mike, that swell chart on wetsand looks SWEET!

I got a rescue sled, tow rope, etc but still cannot find a towboard to use... So I may not be able to tow these swells.

Maybe I'll do what you do instead - hang out as a safety pwc/sled and maybe ride around a bit.

Re: big waves these week

Yeah Boards are hard to come by and thats why I just ride. Nothing like taking off on a 30+' wave and just carving and doing re-entries with the ski. I seen alot of wave riders on ski's at Haleiwa. I kinda do the same thing. And when the Tow-in fellows show up I just let'em have all the waves cause they usually ride the first or second wave of the set and then that BIG one comes and it's all Me!!! Then I pick up any guys who get caught in the rip. Kinda like a cool group we have here and I have the quickest and most durable ski out of us all. They seem to like the Yamis. My ultra250 is just too much torque for doing towins. Tried once and nearly ripped this guys arms out. So I can't wait for this swell to HIT !!!
