Help! Riva red pipe owners!

I just bought a riva red pipe and planned on restoring it. Well after some reading I found that a lot of people are having problems with them getting a "small hole" plugged. Apparently there is a small hole in the pipe to allow water to enter. Problem is, When I pulled all 3 water fittings off the pipe, all 3 have EXTREME corrosion inside and I have no idea which one HAD the small hole. Also, What size was this hold because I'm going to have to drill it out.

Also, Is there anyway of removing the corrosion? Can I pour muratic acid into the water jackets?

It's the one on top. I'm not sure on the exact size, but it's gotta be smaller than 1/8".

Re: Help! Riva red pipe owners!

So when looking in through the top water fitting hold, you should see a 1/8" hole into the exhaust part of the pipe correct?

Yep, the water injection hole is centered below where the upper fitting threads in. If it's clogged, you can usually just poke it clear. Just unthread the fitting for access.

Re: Help! Riva red pipe owners!

Actually, I tried to take a small pin punch to it and it still wont unclog! Massive corrosion. Like, stupid amounts of corrosion.

Re: Help! Riva red pipe owners!

Re: Help! Riva red pipe owners!

I would go with a 1/16th or smaller bit in a drill on low speed and poke around. Should be able to find the origional hole pretty easily.

Re: Help! Riva red pipe owners!

Agreed. Start small and work your way up, if needed.
