PM SkiWi, PyroChick or JonnyX2 - I'll bet they can give you some great feedback as they're all locals.

Re: Lake Powell suggestions

I've never taken the skis to Powell. Probably wouldn't camp there in mid-July, unless you're truly hardcore. It's very hot and gets some really nasty afternoon thunderstorms that time of year. The good news is the water level should be up quite a bit from the last few years. Can't offer much more than that. Haven't been to Powell in at least 12 years.

Re: Lake Powell suggestions

Hey bulldog - PM me of you want with your phone number. I'm going to Powell this weekend for a week on a housboat. My wife grew up there in Page and lots of family still there (1 of 14 kids) so we get up there 2 or 3 times a year.

There is a Cortyard Marriot right coming in to town. Plenty of parking and the rooms, grounds, restraunt and bar are par with any Marriot. Great golf course there too. There are 2 or 3 Best Westerns just 1/2 mile up the hill from the Marriot. Again, par for a Best Western budget.

I've stayed at all of these. There are plenty of other hotels as well so check around.

From Page it is a 7 mile drive to the ranger station entrance to the lake...then about 3 more miles before the marina. At the marine called what-a-heap, or I mean Whaweap, is a hotel. This is the only hotel on the lake so they charge a premium for it. Check the web site for rates. We have always gotten special deals there because at least one of the 14 kids have been working there at the time. It's old, built in the 60's, early 60's, but kept up well. The Rainbow Room resteraunt has an awesome veiw of the lake.

If you want to camp on the lake, sure it's not a problem. You have only one beach you can drive on and camp at. That is called Lone Rock. It is at the far west end of the Whaweap bay. You would stay on 89 west past the first lake powell entrance, drive about 8-10 miles. There is a little sign that says "lone rock beach". You still need to pay the same fees. If you have a national park annual pass, it works for your car for $0 but you still have to pay for the skis.

If you want to camp anywhere else on the lake, you need to launch from 2 of the Whaweap marina's launch ramps and boat your stuff out. If you have a ski boat going, this is a great option.

Also, to park your trailer at the lake, you need one of those muscles waiver forms on your dash board of the car. And please, make sure you do not bring any of those varmint up to Powell. Go to the glen canyon web site for the waiver form. http://www.nps.gov/glca/

Re: Lake Powell suggestions

we were ther last summer. spent 10 days on a house boat towing the ski boat. cant wait to go back. if you can, do the house boat and try to go in early june or early september to avoid peak season. saave alot of money. we went the last week of may. not scorching hot but still plenty warm. the best way for someone who is not local IMO is to go the houseboat course. that lake is massive.

Re: Lake Powell suggestions

All of the motels in town are friendly to trailers. They are very used to it. Dont worry about having fun, you will!

Re: Lake Powell suggestions

Lake Powell was THE best vacation spot for skiing, water sports, etc...and the views...Holy Rainbow Bridge Batman!
With a fair amount of time, enough food, drink, boat, skis and a houseboat, it's the place to be!

Don't forget the fuel.
