The Great Chesapeake Bay Swim - Needs you and your 4 stroke PWC

The Chesapeake Raiders has partnered up with the Great Chesapeake Bay Swim http://www.bayswim.com/, March of Dimes and the Chesapeake Bay Power Boat Association http://www.cbpba.com/ as support craft for the Swim. The Event will take place on June 14th, 2009. Swimmers will swim from Sandy Point to other side between bridges.

We are currently looking for at least 12 FOUR STROKE skis to assist with the safety of the swimmers. Four strokes are needed as 2 strokes will smoke out the swimmers. Volunteers will be invited to a dinner and get together with door prizes and more, You must be available the day before the Swim and be ready at least 1-2 hours before the start of the swim. Your participation time and fuel and ski will be potentially a tax deduction. Please contact us at 410-903-8477

Only bay swim volunteers are eligible to run their boat or ski in the poker run. Must be a member or getting a membership from this bay swim, and must have insurance info on file with the club.

For those interested you do have to be a member to volunteer and ride your ski in this event. Volunteering is of course FREE. For those volunteering for this event we have waved the 1st years year membership as a thank you for helping out with the March of Dimes. You will need to fill out our paperwork so that we have your information on file including ski type and year, insurance, emergency numbers, etc. The Poker Run is $75.00 to get in. The Poker Run here is not part of the Chesapeake Raiders club but being put on by the March of Dimes folks. The money goes will go the organization of the event and the rest goes into the Pot. We have no control over this. Most Poker Runs are run like this if you ever want to join in. You do not have to participate in the Poker Run if you do not want too. The Poker Run is a fun event only open to volunteers (boats and skis). In order to volunteer your boat will need to be a part of the Chesapeake Bay Power Boaters Association in order to represent that club, and in order to volunteer your ski you must be a member of the Chesapeake Raiders PWC Club (Free for Volunteers). So you will need to come up with $75.00, if you chose to participate in the Poker Run, but please remember you have a chance of winning the Pot as you would in a game of regular poker. Additional hands can be purchased for $25.00 each. The Pot is unknown until the day of the event as we do not know how many hands will be played.

The March of Dimes asks for help with the swim at no cost to the volunteers. You will get a form for your expenses to deduct them off your taxes. The $75 fee is for the poker run. It covers the expenses of the poker run, a card hand and some other goodies. A portion of the $75 goes back as prize money for the poker hands. You as a volunteer also get a free membership to the Chesapeake Bay Power Boaters Assoc (for first time members only) and also the Chesapeake Raiders PWC club.
There is a fleet of @60 boats and jet skis for the swim. There are also some kayakers and Boston whalers there in addition to the 60ish boats.
