From the IJSBA website: IJSBA Pre World Finals Update (4/5) October 5, 2009
Greetings PWC Community. This is your fourth update before the 2009 quakysense World Finals gets rolling. Please share the following news and information with your friends and colleagues in the sport of PWC racing:
Reminder: Deadline to avoid on site fees is less than 48 hours away
We will continue to remind you that you can save your money by registering early. You can register online or send a fax all the way up to 11:59 PM, PST tomorrow, October 6. As of October 7, the only registrations accepted will be on site registrations. To avoid on site fees, your entry must include full payment. Expect one last reminder tomorrow…but that doesn’t mean to procrastinate!
Entries and the economy
We have received several more entries since the last update. Thank you for not making us burn so much of the midnight oil this weekend. Everyone is aware that we are facing the worst economy that has ever been seen in this sport’s lifetime. The registration numbers are now indicating that we will reach our participation numbers from last year. We truly appreciate those of you who made the choice to invest in the sport when things are so tight.
For those of you who couldn’t make it this year, we hope you can come as a spectator and we will keep the event going strong when you are able to come back and join us on the line again.
Please keep in mind that the economy is hard on everyone. Many of the World Finals staff take their vacations to come and work this event. They have made the trek out and are working at wages that, in some cases, barely covered their costs to get here.
We simply ask that you remember that the World Finals staff also has homes, mortgages, and jobs that are all subject to the same level of stress as yours. The staff has made the same sacrifices that you have for this event to happen and be the best that it can be
We all do this because we love PWC racing so much. This is a good year to keep the focus that we are all a family and to express our appreciation to one another by showing respect and courtesy as much as possible.
Lodging Update
The Travellodge has about 4 rooms left as of this afternoon (10/5). The Island Inn has 5 rooms left in the block. The London Bridge Resort has sold out its room block for the World Finals. Thank you for your patronage of our hotel sponsors. The IJSBA is very pleased that we will sell out four hotels (well three and part of London Bridge anyway) for this year’s event.
Code of Conduct and Regulations
If you have not reviewed the IJSBA Code of Conduct, now is a good time to do it. You can find it here:
http://www.ijsba.com/ijsba/index.cfm...9/wf/guide.htm. Competitors are required to adhere to this Code of Conduct at all times during the event including while off premises. Unacceptable behavior reflects poorly upon the sport.
All the stress we all have built up right now, in combination with the adrenaline worked up in the event, can cause us to lose touch of our good sense when we are in a environment of relatively high freedom like Lake Havasu City. This year, please take extra time to keep yourself in check.
Every year, IJSBA has to talk with a couple of you about the channel buoys as a practice buoy. This talk usually costs you $150. When you are out tuning or warming up, those marker buoys can look so tempting. The US Coast Guard is in the boat house with binoculars from the time the event starts until it ends and this is exactly what they are looking for.
The popular saying “if I only had a dollar for every time….” does not apply here. We do have a dollar… we wish we didn’t have any. Fines are mandatory from the Coast Guard. Also, don’t forget that if you ride outside of our licensed perimeter then you better be up to snuff with registration, fire extinguishers, and proper decals!
Please review these bullet points on the regulations to which we must adhere to be in compliance with out permits:
-No underage riding of anything at all in the park, and no speeding at all of anything in the park.
-No parking of anything inside the park unless you have a campsite paid for.
-No parking if anything on pavement in the site or you will be towed
-No riding un licensed boats ANYWHERE outside of our safety zone
-No speed riding in the channel or near other boats
-No fueling within 20' of the water. Don't carry your fuel cans inyour truck or trailer to the launch/race beach.
-No trucks or motor vehicles may be left unattended in the water after launching, they must be removed from the waters' edge.
Visitor’s Bureau Survey
As we start working on the next year’s event as soon as this year’s event ends, we are always looking to please the powers that be in order to be in the best standing possible. This year, in order to keep the bosses happy, we need to require all participants to fill out a complete, legible, and accurate survey before releasing any wristbands. We apologize for the extra few minutes that this is going to add to your check in process. We wish we could PERMIT you to treat this situation as optional but the circumstances just do not PERMIT us to do so.
Freestyle Corral
Freestyle competitors should be prepared to enter the inspection corral at 1:00PM on Thursday, October 15. Corral will last up to three hours. Anyone participating in the corral, who is cleared by the IJSBA Technical Inspectors, shall not be subject to a disqualification for any hull related protests and/or infractions.
Opening of the Pits
The 2009 quakysesne World Finals pits will open on Saturday, October 10 upon the completion of the paddle board race.
That’s it for this update. World Finals opens for registration in just 4 days. The final update will be sent out this Friday. The IJSBA office will be closed at 1:00PM tomorrow as we are preparing to leave for Lake Havasu City.
