Timing for WB1

Hi, Some stupid mechanic exchanged my flywheel for a old rusted one, I think he did it because the gears was worn on my previous flywheel. I know he did not check my timing because he believes it is the same thing. The ski works, but I know that it will work even with the timing all wrong.

Why I say the timing is out???
A flywheel is basically a round magnet, and every magnet in this world is different. It is like people, everyone is different, they just look the same (sometimes).

The magneto has a built in magnetic sensor. it seances the magnetic field for a SPECIFIC flywheel ,this is adjusted separately for every engine at the factory, each one is different. This means that when you change flywheels the timing WILL be out, not allot but it defiantly will be out.

I know how to adjust the magneto, I don't know how to check where it sparks? I guess that I need to see the flywheel turning, but the engine can't start without the flywheel cover because the cover holds the gears in place.
I did not see a TDC (Top Dead center) mark on the flywheel.

Am I missing something here? How do I do this?

Re: Timing for WB1

Get a spare flywheel cover and mod it (cut a big hole) to expose the flywheel yet hold the starter bendix in place.

Re: Timing for WB1

Do you know if the flywheel has a TDC mark?

I don't want to re open mine again.
Do you know if it has to be 5 degrees of TDC?

Re: Timing for WB1

if he just changed the flywheel and didnt removed the stator ( dont see why he would to change the flywheel) , the timing wouldnt be affected, the flywheels are keyed, and wont change the timing removing and installing another one. if your really worried about it, you can remove the flywheel and check the stamped timing marks on the cases and stator.

Re: Timing for WB1

What does it mean when you say it is keyed? How does it work? He did remove the magneto, the reason being that he had to rebuild my engine because his mechanic messed it up, 3 months without a ski. I won't be surprised to find a old crank in there.

I marked the position when I originally rebuilt my engine.

Re: Timing for WB1

i mean the flywheel and crankshaft are both machined in a set spot, a flywheel key locks into position on the crank, the flywheel slides onto the key/crank, but if he rebuilt the motor, the he also removed the stator.. so the timing could be off.... if you marked b4 teardown, make sure the marks are lined up...

Tanks for the advice. I did not know this.
I opened it, he misplaced it by 1mm.
