timing procedure for a Yamaha WB 701

Hi,
Is somebody around that could be so polite to briefly describe the "how to" procedure in order to check and eventually adjust the timing on a WB 701?
I refer to a dynamic test that implies the use of a strobo light attending that the marks on stator and crankcase are often not very reliable.
For what I know the first step is to get a bendix holder that is easily obtainable by cutting an old flywheel cover. I'm a little confused with the further steps (rpms at which the test should be performed, marks that should be made on flywheel and case etc...)
I wait for a little help.........
Thank you
Michele

Re: timing procedure for a Yamaha WB 701

I know the RPM does not play a big role in adjusting the timing, I do know that you need some sort of a Top Dead Center mark on your flywheel and that you need to run the engine in order to check the timing. I also don't trust the factory settings. If you open a standard 701 Yamaha engine and you look at the intake ports inside the cylinder you will see that the barrel sometimes overlap up to 4 mm, I don't trust Yamaha settings at all.
