Quick question with aftermarket head and spark plugs

My Waveblaster has a Westcoast head and I am replacing the spark plugs(for good measure.) I bought some B8HS plugs but after pulling the old plugs I noticed they were B8ES. I know the ES has a longer reach, but I would like to know will I be fine with the HS's or should I exchange them for ES's?

Also, my battery died on me just as I dropped it into the water. I charged it less than a week ago. Should I just recharge it or go buy a new one. I am assuming "a new one" would be a better option. Any suggestions one any brands I should get or should I just get the one at they sell at Wally World and/or Autozone?

Thanks for answering a drawn out question....I will get the hang of this 'wrenching' stuff in a few months when I give my ski an extreme makeover.

your battery probably has a bad/dead cell, which means it wont hold a charge long.... i would replace it, for the peace of mind, knowing it will start, IMO

Re: Quick question with aftermarket head and spark plugs

I went to autozone and exchanged the HS's for ES's. I recharged the battery again and took it out and it ran beautifully. I will replace the battery soon though. Until then I will just charge the battery before i go out.

Thanks nofear and chadman for your help.

Yes. Stock Yamaha 650/701/760 heads use the short-reach HS plugs. Most aftermarket heads are thicker, requiring you to use the long-reach ES plugs.

Re: Quick question with aftermarket head and spark plugs

They don't have hotter spark. They have less cooling capability than higher numbered plugs, making the engine run a little bit hotter.
