FPP mod pipe install question

I'm getting ready to bolt the new motor in my blaster so I was mocking up the pipe. It looks like there is little to no space between the factory pipe head pipe and the long exhaust tube that runs past the motor. Do I need to lose the piece of side foam to make it all fit or should I just not worry about I rubbing? Any advice is appreciated I'm not looking coward to install that chamber seems like is going to be a pain.

I think your referring to the Rubber exhaust hose clearance from the waterbox? It can be alittle tight around the head pipe. You may need to trim the foam in that area. On my Blaster I have a small area of foam that I rounded out for better clearance around the head pipe.

I have my engine out right now and here is the only pic I have that may possibly give you an idea of how my foam is cut.

I run the Mod chamber

Re: FPP mod pipe install question

The instructions tell you to completely remove that piece. I trimmed it on one of my blasters and removed it on another and I'll have to say removing it is the way to go. Makes it alot easier to get to the bottom head pipe screw with it out. Removing it is also easier and if you trim it in the boat it makes a huge mess. If your worried about flotation, there is plenty of room for it under the battery.

Re: FPP mod pipe install question

Thanks for the info. I actually took the pipe and the 62t motor out of a raider so I don't have the instructions. I looked it up on the website but must have missed that part. As far as putting it under the battery, did you just cut it into smaller pieces and glue it in different places under there?

Re: FPP mod pipe install question

I just took it out. I personally don't think sinking a blaster is much of a concern. Mine has gotten away from me in surf before and been upside down in a break for quite a while and it didn't even get close to sinking. I'm not sure I've ever even heard of one sinking w/o a catastrophic hull failure to tell you the truth. Regardless, removing it is certainly a risk, just a matter of how big of one...

You dont really need to remove the entire piece of foam you can just take a big chunk of it by using piano wire heated up over an open flame then pull it taut to cut the foam. That way it looks nice and clean.

Or something along those lines. Mine came out just fine. No foam everywhere.
