drain plugs

I want to get the correct assembly for the starboard side as the previous owner has it rigged with a generic rubber plug (see photo's below). The one on port side seems like a standard plastic Yamaha one (which I will just leave alone), but the other one with the generic plug has a larger metal base to it. Anyone know what's really supposed to be on that right one? Maybe a few photos of what you guys have may help. I just want it to be set up the correct way.

Thanks!!

Re: drain plugs

Erie - all Blasters (and most Yamaha 2 strokes - I know nothing about 4-strokers) came with the same drain plug assembly that you have on the L side of your Blaster. I do not know what someone rigged for the R side but if you want another of the factory units let me know I have a couple extra.
Good luck, LB

Re: drain plugs

The one on the L is standard and full of dirt or almost looks like a philips head screw.
The one on the right is not a versiplug, belongs on a boat.

One word of caution. I love the versa plugs, I have two of them on my B1. There is one massive design flaw. If anything gets between the ball and the portion that seals, it will cause the ball not to seal and it will leak. I had this happen on both at the same time.

This could be a stick, grass, end of a zip tie, leaf etc.

The solution is to glue a pice of screen on the INSIDE of the plug. I always have an extra stock plug on hand just in case. Otherwise they work great.
Duckbills are lame. I have seen so many of those pop off in the surf on other skis.

If you buy two of them direct, ask for a free shirt.

Re: drain plugs

Thanks for the replies. Those versiplugs do seem nice....guess I'll have to remove that right side one that belongs on a boat and hope the hole hasn't been modified. Seems like they may have made it larger for some reason. I see the links to the dealers, but no prices. What does a set/or individual of versiplugs run?

Re: drain plugs

It looks like they used caulk or some 4200 around the seal. If they did modify it, I think pwcdoctor.com sells that part also.

They aren't cheap, about $20 each I think. If two is too much, just get one. That way it will still drain and you will save some cash.

You should be able to buy it direct, that is where I got mine. Looks like their online store is bad. Just send them an e-mail.

Re: drain plugs

As I'm looking at these drain plugs on my ski, it's dawning on me that removing them isn't as simple as just popping some screws off the back. It seems I'll need access to the inside of the hull where the back plate goes on? Would I remove the battery and panel and go in from there with long arms? Any trick to doing these, or do you not need access to the inside? Thanks!!

Re: drain plugs

You will be able to unscrew them and take them off from the back.

Re: drain plugs

Good news....I removed the odd looking plug assembly on the right side and all seems normal with the hole. Actually, the OEM gasket is still in place. I'm guessing the previous owner just threw this thing in there cuz he had it laying around and needed a quick fix. So now the decision is OEM or VersiPlug replacement??? Do you guys find that you get much water in the blaster hulls, or does it pretty much depend on your riding style?
