Alternative Hood Seals

My hood seal gave me its two week notice today. In searcing for the OEM replacement I'm finding I'm $100 short. I'd like to spend about $10. I found this item at Lowes that I'm going to check out after work. What other alternatives have you guys or gals run accross. If there is a thread on this already, paste it here so I can read it.

http://www.lowes.com/pd_96175-1410-V...19&Ntt=weather stripping&Ntk=i_products&pl=1&currentURL=/pl__0__s?Ntk=i_products$rpp=15$No=60$Ntt=weather stripping

I don't know that this particular product would be wide enough. It appears that it would be a great idea if its wide enough to fill the void where the old gasket was.

Your thoughts.....

Re: Alternative Hood Seals

Watcon sells a hood seal that is for a polaris octane but will fit a superjet as well...may work out for the Blaster(not sure if or how much longer the blaster seal is)

They are around $25 plus shipping and supposed to work awesome. I have one but haven't had a chance to ride the ski yet.

Re: Alternative Hood Seals

Another option is to buy a used hood seal from maybe a VXR Pro or something. You could get it for next to nothing and would just have to be cut to size.

Re: Alternative Hood Seals

I too am in the same boat and don't want to spend much on it. I picked up some Weather Stripping at a hardware store. Like this stuff http://www.wjdennis-rcr.com/Products...FoamTapes.aspx

Here's the catalog
http://www.wjdennis-rcr.com/Portals/...%20Catalog.pdf

I haven't even measured it so it's probably the wrong width. But I took a shot and picked up super firm closed cell stuff. Go to the hardware store and look for some of the thick heavy rubber stuff.

If you wait till tomorrow I'll prolly measure it, run to a larger hardware store and find the perfect stuff and will let you know.

Oh and the stuff I bought was only $4.39.

I actually have some of this stuff. A few rolls of it. I've worked with it before on log homes I've built, I'm a little hesitant to use it. However, I do like this stuff in the catalog you sent: "Premium" EPDM Rubber I like it because it has grooves in it which would fit the edge of the lid that sits down in it. That would help seal. Thanks for the link though, I'll keep going through it. My local Lowes didn't have the stuff I posted in my first post. Currently I'm leaning that direction if I can't find a good used seal.

Re: Alternative Hood Seals

I'm gonna be in the same situation with mine soon, and am considering Jet Ski Solutions as well. Here's the link --> http://www.jetskisolutions.com/p67_h..._upgraded.html

It seems they've improved upon their previous version of their seal. For $30, worth a try! Those OEM ones are a freakin' rip off!

Re: Alternative Hood Seals

I have 1 from jetski solutions. It's very similar to the super firm closed cell stuff. But jetski solutions is a little better. It does work well but I don't want to spend $30 plus shipping if I can find almost identical stuff for $5 at a hardware store. Never made it yet but will report back when I do. Ryan let us know if you try that stuff and how it turns out.
