Mariner Exhaust Hose Routing

Is anyone on here familiar with the old Mariner exhaust, and how the various hoses should be routed from it?

When I've had my X2 out on the lake, some of the guys who were gathered there were kind of scratching their heads over how the previous owner routed some of the hoses, and I've gotta admit I don't understand it very well, either. I've attached some pics I took at one point.

My primary concern is the front urinator (is there a worksafe word for this?), running off the 'T' connector, the other hoses off the 'T' go to the exhaust pipe in a couple of different spots. That urinator seems to blow black smoke as much as it does water.

Are the hoses routed wrong? Might there be a hole in the interior of the exhaust pipe perforating the water jacket? Or is it normal?

Yeah, you've kind of got to juggle the first, second, and fourth picture in your mind to figure out that the hose you're talking about comes off the head at the rear cylinder, curves up and down, and attaches to the rear pisser.

Any problems with cooling have been completely masked by the bigger problems with carburetion. I have replacement carb kits in the mail right now to hopefully help with that. What are symptoms of cooling trouble? It always seemed to me like the pissers had prostate trouble, but I already replaced the head gasket and planed the head, and compression is good.

If the black smoke is not a bad sign, then my complaint is chiefly cosmetic, that the black smoke coming out that front pisser is staining the white hull black.

Whenever I get around to repainting, I'm probably going to go with a very dark theme anyway.

What couplers are you referring to? Right now all I've got on my shopping list are Westcoast velocity stacks and colored 5/16 fuel line.

Re: Mariner Exhaust Hose Routing

You've got some nice goodies there. That mariner pipe is killing those nice Ocean Pro race cylinders. I wouldnt get westcoast velocity stacks , Id get a pair of proks with water jackets.

Your waterlines look correct from what I can see. To lessen the smoke out the pisser , stick a jet (from a carb) in the nipple of the stinger inlet on the pipe.

Whats your compresion with that head on those cylinders?

If it was me I'd change the cooling lines to one feeding the motor and the other feeding the pipe. Hit the sarch engine , there are a few threads with diagrams.

Re: Mariner Exhaust Hose Routing

Do you have dual cooling go to the exhaust manifold? If not that could be the water pressure problem because you have two pissers.

Re: Mariner Exhaust Hose Routing

I thought about proks, but between the FAs, the adapters, and the socks, it starts getting a little pricy and complicated. I also read that at least one guy had a pair fall apart on him, which is what happened to the cheap FAs that were already on there, so I may be experiencing extra vibration that could be a problem. I figure the Westcoast are simple, durable one-pieces that shouldn't slow me down. I haven't heard of any negatives they might have, and I'm not trying to eke out every possible MPH out of this thing, just get it running smoothly.

I don't recall the last compression readings I got, and the carbs and manifold are off right now, but the first posting I did here I listed it as 195 psi. I went out and got a can of 101 octane originally, I think the next can I'll dilute with some 93.

Re: Mariner Exhaust Hose Routing

Westcoast velocity stacks are funnels for water.

I've never seen a prok or prok style FA fall apart.
