kawai 750 with 650 stator question

So i was pulling apart my small pin 750 that is in my 91 x-2. It has the 650 stator on it and when i pull offed the flywheel i noticed that the coil with the two brown wires was in rough shape. You can move all the wires individually on the coil the normal protective coverning is gone. Also the insulation on the brown wire were it first leaves the coil is gone and it looks like it has been arking onto the stator plate. Just wondering what cause this? The machine had spark when i pulled the motor so can i just put some insulation on the wire and something on the coil itself and keep using it or do i need a new one? I added some pics so you will maybe see what i mean

Re: kawai 750 with 650 stator question

looks to me like the magnets are touching the coils and making the black powder residue and it is collecting and possibly creating shorts. Try and get a hold of Jetski Solutions and send them the pictures, maybe they can help you out.

Re: kawai 750 with 650 stator question

I pulled the motor because my crank case was seperating. Droping off the crank next week to make sure it is balanced. If it was viberating could that have cause a wobble and the magnets to rub the coils?

The crank came from SBT had it two year but probably not 40 hours on it yet so well see what happens.

Wow that looks burnt! I can't figure it out, but is the damaged coil the charging coil, or the exciter coil? I'm fairly certain the ski will fire with a busted charging coil... Was the charging system working???

Re: kawai 750 with 650 stator question

not sure if it was charging. It ran fine then one day i went to put it in and could not get the thing to run for any more then about 15 seconds. That is when i pulled the motor to see what was going on plus i had some water sealing issues for the hull i wanted to take care of. When i pulled the motor i noticed that it was loose on the mounting plate. I also noticed that the crank case bolts were all loose. I have had this ski for 5 years now and i never stop working on it. I would like to get the damn thing running right or I will just start parting it out and it has some awsome parts on it. Some of which will end up on my stock 93

I know how you feel! I had a random starter failure last week! First time I used it after having the engine out... These are temperamental beasts!

Re: kawai 750 with 650 stator question

Assuming the stator plate was installed properly... It looks like the front outer main bearing is going south allowing the flywheel to touch the coils. If it is a main bearing might think about having the flywheel rebalanced before reusing it.

Re: kawai 750 with 650 stator question

It's not the best angle, but I can't see any flywheel contact...
