hood shaving step x step?

A few things i need to know before i do this.

What materials?
How to route airflow?
how to paint/gel coat after its done?

Also can someone tell me how to do this?

Really like the look of the shaved hood and search bar came up with crap.

Thanks.

Re: hood shaving step x step?

you will need about a 3ftX3ft peice of cloth and at least a 18oz of resin to cover it all up , after WB's test i would say only use epoxy resin ,dont worry about gel coat just use a base coat/clear coat automotive paint sprayed over a quality primer if you want it to last , there is a high build primer (color yellow) that helps build up a surface kinda like bondo , that way you have enough material sprayed on the surface to be able to sand it down real good and get it perfectly leval ,

if you want i can explain everything step by step from when you first cut the hood to when you put the finished product on the ski . let me know if you want that much info ....

check out the x-2 build thread for the donner boat. i lowered all of the hood and it looks pretty ballin. the easiest way to lower just the bump ontop of the hood is to take a sawza or chain saw and cut it off, then take wax paper and duct tape the hole, after that you need to duct tape a piece of cardboard over the whole and over the waxpaper. Now get out your two part epoxy from US composites, you will probably need 1/2 gallon if your stupid with it. Get a plastic bowl and mix your two part epoxy together thouroghly. now lay your cloth (8oz first then a layer of 18 oz chop) from the inside of the hood after removing the stock hood foam. use filler to fill in the spots that the fiber glass doesn't cover, and use foam in the air intakes great stuff works for this. great stuff (that cheap foam you buy at lowes and Home depot) should be covered with a thin layer of epoxy and your set to paint! . if you need help or questions shoot me a PM becaus i will probably never check this thread again. good luck and have fun!
