Battery type for under seat????

I'm wondering what type if battery everyone is using for under the seat? I know there is a bit of fiberglassing that needs to be done but that's not a problem.

Re: Battery type for under seat????

I actually did fiberglass work and put a drain in. I ended up going with a Decka brand battery. The guys at the batt shop told me (and after using it I understand why) that the Decka was much better then the odyssey. Its the same size as the factory battery. Took a little work but finally got it.

Heres some pics, this is just a regular battery not the decka but its the same size.

Dont know if youll be able to enlarge them cause I just pasted them from the link of my build thread. You can go to my build thread and look at post # 27 to enlarge.

lol, funny you mentioned that.... daytona 2010 was the first time that i put it in the salt after relocating the battery. yes, it was shocking me, but i put some electric tape on the UMI throttle and odi clamps and rode shock-free for the entire event.

im going to coat the + terminal with some non-conductive di-electric grease next time i take it to the salt and see if it helps.

Re: Battery type for under seat????

So I am going to play devils advocate here. Why exactly would you want the battery glassed in under the seat. It just doesn't make any sense to me. Noting the above post, the thing is going to be constantly wet if it is not glassed in and you are gonna get shocked.
Plus if the thing goes bad, and they do, then you have a a%$-ton of work to do to just replace the battery.
I'm just sayin'
Someone enlighten me.

Re: Battery type for under seat????

I just need as muchroom as possible in the engine compartment. Mocking up a bigger size motor as we speak.

Quik-where did youput your drain? Where does it drain to?

it's not "glassed in" it is under the seat.... if you want to replace it you take the seat off remove the connections and remove lol

Quik-where did youput your drain? Where does it drain to?[/QUOTE]

I just used one of the stock drains that was already there on the side and drilled into the cavity where the battery sits once I was done doing the glass work.

I moved mine so I would have more room under the hood for all of the total loss electronics and it also makes it easier to remove the gas tank when you need to pull the flywheel for timing adjustments.

And like Davenjw said, its not glassed in, all I have to do is remove the seat and I have direct access for charging, removal etc.
